Jackie Traverse is a contemporary artist who’s common motifs like Aboriginal Women and First Nations often appear in her paintings, sculpture and mixed media works.
A recent graduate from the University of Manitoba, Jackie creates vibrants works depicting women and animals, borrowing much of the artistic stylings from her Anishinabe ancestry.
Jackie also was one of 15 people from First Nations to submit and get their work in Coca-cola’s fundraiser to support the Vancouver 2010 Aboriginal Youth Legacy Fund. She created submitted her version of a Coca-cola bottle sculpture, which later was auctioned off for money for this fund. Her bottle can be seen on this site, it’s in the first row, furthest to the right. There has a lot of media coverage of Traverse since the Vancouver games. Hopefully, this will prompt her to continue making work as well as inspire other Aboriginal artists to express themselves.
